TVN Winter Olympics 2002

Television Programm- und Nachrichtengesellschaft mbH & Co. KG (TVN) hired Studio Hamburg Media Consult International (MCI) GmbH to handle the technical planning for mobile transmission containers and flightcase technology for the entire live reporting at the Winter Olympics 2002 in Salt Lake City.

The technical equipment for this project included three complete transmission controls and three linear editing stations. One of the transmission controls and one editing station were fitted in a container unit consisting of 4 containers in total, which had to be transported individually and linked up with one of the transmission controls locally in the Utah Olympia Park.

All the equipment was installed in accor dance with the European PAL standard, but is also suitable for the NTSC norm. Reporting was done from six locations in total, which were up to 120 km apart and spread around Salt Lake City. Along with the container installation, a newly constructed mobile transmission control, installed into special transport cases (flightcases), and three mobile editing stations were also used.
